Elder Powell: It Was a Walk…

Hey y’all!

Transfer Day has come yet again so this will be a quicker email. We have yet to receive any announcement so hopefully I can continue breaking records for a 6th Transfer in Waxahachie. Better, Utah Jazz tip off tonight against the Sydney Kings for Preseason Home Opener! Can’t wait for NBA Season to get rolling again.  Oh, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS. I couldn’t be more excited that we are into October!

Tuesday we had our last District Meeting of the Transfer. Due to all the missionaries lacking on miles for the month, we had a joyful humorous Facebook Video Call. Always a nice surprise to be able to use face filters for once in a District Meeting….hehe. Afterwards, of course, some members took us out to lunch to….you guess…..CHICK-FIL-A. Man was it fantastic. Also of course, we were able to find a new Investigator in the restaurant, Julie, and things look promising. To top it off, the workers gave me, and only me, a free homemade chocolate chip cookie!! Such sweethearts they are to me. Sorry Elder Korhonen……haha.

Wednesday was a better day for Elder Korhonen because, it was his 100th day!! I’ve never seen anyone more excited (except me of course). It was fantastic! We went to Subway to celebrate such festivities and I told the workers what we were celebrating and guess what, they all started clapping at Elder Korhonen and yelling congratulations and another family that was at Subway also joined in on the fíesta. It was exciting!! In the evening with mutual and volleyball, we brought a bunch of food and treats to the church to celebrate his 100th day and all the members were super proud and happy for him. It was a fun night.

Thursday we were at Starbucks for our weekly planning session. We were fortunate to be invited in on a lesson with our Jehovah Witness friend with a family they were teaching at Starbucks. We were able to teach the Plan of Salvation to the family and you could tell the family was really enjoying what we had to say to them rather than some other beliefs and thoughts. It sure looked like it backfired on him but as always, we are under one team learning about our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Always incredible miracles found at Starbucks. Yumm! Later that night, we were at Panda Express and was able to talk and teach to an awesome Dallas Police Officer! He was such a cool man that was impressed by what we do at such a young age. We taught the Book of Mormon and that led into the Spirit World and after death. He was so interested and excited he started reading the Book of Mormon with another police officer while eating. Hopefully he continues to read and pray about it.

#FridayNightDateNight was just insane. We just happened to hold our car fast which means we gotta do some walking without Christmas music. We walked to Starbucks haha and decided to walk alllll the way to Midlothian – yikes! Fortunately and unfortunately, it was a cloudy and rainy day. We walked 14 miles in 4 hours and 15 minutes all the way west to Midlothian. Craziest walk I’ve ever done. I’ve been thinking of doing it for the past 8 months being here, but nahhh. Well, at least I feel accomplished. It was sure difficult to wake up Saturday and Sunday morning with wanting our legs to be amputated or something haha.

Thankfully, it was General Conference weekend! Missionary Super Bowel. How lovely it is to sit back and relax for several hours. I had to miss the Priesthood Session Saturday evening due to five Baptismal Interviews down in Corsicana from 6:00pm to 9:15pm. All but one passed the interview. It was the most heartbreaking feeling I’ve ever experienced but I know the Lord has His own timing and they will be Baptized when the time is right. This is definitely the Lord’s work and church. I cannot doubt that one bit.

Some members were able to feed us breakfast yesterday morning and watch General Conference with them. Always my favorite. Best food and best talks given at General Conference. I loved Elder Anderson with his closing remarks to the Conference. Including Elder Hale’s and President Monson’s quotes. These men are the Lord’s Prophets and Apostles that lead and direct His church. How blessed we are to hear from them two weekends of the year. I love and sustain these brethren fully. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is how families can and are meant to be together forever. How grateful we are to each have that knowledge.

I love you all! Thanks for the continued love and support. Happy Shakes&Subs.

Bye :)

*Something neat: We received an Elder from the Puerto Rico Mission in our District in Corsicana! What a crazy story he has that he’s seen and experienced. He will be here for at least 4-6 months and possibly longer. Continued prayers for the people in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.*
