Elder Powell: Fiestas!

Hey y’all!

What another wild week it has been! September is about finished and two weeks until the NBA Preseason gets rolling and the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X are coming out! They are worth every penny especially the iPhone X with no home button. It’s beautiful!

Tuesday and Wednesday were just normal with appointments and finding. We were able to play volleyball as always with the ward which is my favorite part of the week and have our correlation meetings. I brought some good MoTab Christmas Music to enjoy since the Holidays are basically here haha.
Thursday through Friday we had a normal weekly planning at Starbucks. We were once again able to teach a lesson about the Book of Mormon in accordance with the Bible to some people. After, we went up North to Mountain Creek and Duncanville to go on exchanges with Elders Black and Grimes. I went with Elder Black who is been out for seven months. We were able to teach a few really wonderful lessons about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We did service at my favorite place, Helping Hands, to play UNO with special needs people. They each remembered me and all gave me a hug. It was special!

To end off the exchange on #FridayNightDateNight we (I) had a sweet experience at Subway! Hold on for this story. I was ordering my delicious sandwich and getting my favorite cookie and then, a usual angry Southern Baptist women walked up to me and started yelling her voice box out saying that I “make a million dollars” and need to give at least a $5 tip to each of the six workers that were working. After I started giggling and saying a few things, she grabbed my name tag and I had to hold her hand back and yelled that I can report to her and it got real! The six workers and the rest of the customers were watching in anticipation to see who would win and obviously, I did. Hahaha. And it was a yelling battle! It was fantastic. Later after she finished her meal, she came over to give me a tender hug and apologized and totally didn’t know we are only volunteers. DUH. She did however give each worker only $1 tip while I enjoyed my food instead. Hahaha.

Oh wait. One more thing with Friday night. Of course. Hahaha it was the battle on 287 in Waxahachie!! It was the biggest football game of the season with Ennis @ Waxahahcie. Oh lanta! We got back into Waxahachie and stores were closing early so people were gearing up on food and party supplies for the biggest game of the season right here! I have never seen so many people in my life and I say that every week. The stadium was completely packed and cars just everywhere. We had a little fun driving around the game and the score board was big enough to see outside the stadium and Waxahachie just dominated. It was fantastic! Some members told us that the game was being broadcasted on TV and the Radio to the entire state of Texas. How exciting!!

Saturday was something else! We had a full day of 8 appointments and each one that we went to fed us a lot of food! It was definitely a pre-thanksgiving and I was not complaining at all. I was able to gain only an ounce and Elder Korhonen gained 20 pounds and I had more food than him! #CrohnsProbs hehehe.

Sunday was one of the busiest Sunday’s I’ve had. We were anticipating 16 investigators at church, however, we had 4 come to church and that was a good turnout as is. They really enjoyed church and is excited to come again. We had a lesson with a less active family and daughter and investigator, Brooklyn, who we set a date for her Baptism on October 15th. I really hope I get to see her be Baptized either in person or by Skype if I end up being transferred on October 2nd. Fingers crossed! After, we drove down to Corsicana to attend the Baptism that I had the opportunity to interview last week. It was such a fun and wonderful service. The entire family of 40 were there and they each gave me a hug and freaked out that I was able to make it to the Baptism. They are all Hispanics so of course they brought all the food in the world and we really had a fiesta afterwards! It was incredible. Then, we had to drive all the way up to Midlothian to join in on a birthday party for one of the members in the ward. per my request, hehe, we had Hawaiian Haystacks and cake and ice cream of course! Don’t worry mom, I didn’t have too much ;) We even got to shoot off little toy rockets! That topped off the busy week and Sunday for sure.

Thanks for the continued love and support. Have fun this week and buy a Chick-Fil-A Shake! Because remember, always choose the right. ;)

Bye :)
