Elder Crocker: Carissa and the Fever

I’ve been transferred to Carissa. It’s down farther south. I’ve noticed a trend: whenever I transfer, I go south. Carissa’s a great place. It’s a lot different from all of the other areas that I’ve been to so far on my mission. Most of them have been pretty dense city areas. Carissa is the first place that really feels like the province.

Elder Crocker’s new companion, Elder Dylan Grant. That’s Elder Cornelius in the background.

Elder Dylan Grant

My new companion is Elder Dylan Grant. He’s from around Valencia, California. He was my Zone Leader when I was serving in the office, so I already know him pretty well. This is the first time that I haven’t had a companion that was Filipino. Even when I was with Elder Jenkins, Elder Jimeno was there. It’s different.

Elder Crocker now serves as a Zone Leader in Carissa

Hello, Carissa…

Not much else to say yet, I’m still unfamiliar with the Carissa area, and we weren’t able to work for the past two days because of a crazy fever that I had. The fever broke last night, but I’ve still got a cough. It’s actually the first time on my mission that I was unable to work because I was sick. Oh well.

Until next week,

Elder Crocker

A Few Questions and Answers:

Q: How are you feeling? Are you over your cold?

A: Still getting over it. I have a cough and am sort of achy, but the fever broke at least. I definitely thought I was dying on Sunday though, I don’t think I’ve ever been sicker.

Q: Do you need to see a doctor?

A: Nah. Sister Tye is well aware, and honestly the thing to do is just drink a lot of water and rest. I slept all day yesterday, which was kind of too bad, since I didn’t get to go to my first sacrament meeting here.

Q: Did you get to say goodbye to Sister Julie?

A: Yes, I did. That was a cool experience. I told her I was transferring, and her response was basically, “I guess the Lord needs you somewhere else Elder. Thank you.”

Q: Describe a typical day in the life of a zone leader. (Or, what do your days look like?)

A: It’s not that different to be a zone leader. We just get extra meetings and such.

Q: What’s the name of your new zone?

A: Our zone is called the Carissa zone. It’s within the Naic Distict. There used to only be a Naic zone, but it split last transfer to create the Carissa zone. This is the first time on my mission that I’m not serving in a stake.

Q: What is your new area like?

A: Carissa is the province of the province. My area is actually just one gated community. Just one. The zone’s actually pretty big, but there just aren’t a whole lot of people. Our area is pretty small though. It’s still a bigger area than my last, though.

Q: What cities are in your zone?

A: There aren’t really cities out here in the Province. The biggest city is probably Trece.

Q: How many zones are in the Cavite Mission? How many districts are in your zone?

A: There are 10 zones in the Cavite Mission. We have two districts in our zone. We have 9 companionships in our zone.

Q: Did you already know your new companion from your time in the mission office? How long has he been out? How long has he been a zone leader?

A: I knew Elder Grant from before since he was my zone leader way back in the office. He’s been out a bit longer than me. He’s been a zone leader for a long time. Elder Grant comes from the Manila Mission, too. He goes home in July. I’ll be his last companion, most likely.

Q: What is your apartment like? How many missionaries live there? Will you be driving again?

A: Our apartment is very nice. We have four missionaries inside. I won’t be driving.

Q:  How large of an area is your zone? How many missionaries are you responsible for?

A: Our zone is pretty decently sized. We’re responsible for 8 other companionships.

Q:  When is the next Mission Leadership Training?

A: This Thursday.

Q:  Will you have predictable P-Day each week?

A: I don’t know yet. Today we’ve gone a little ways away to pick up my sandals: I had them resoled.

Elder Crocker's old companion Elder Talingdan won't be going to Carissa.
